1st prize (from project report):
“The design idea of the project was developed based on the concept of ‘Coexistence’. The 2000s witnessed digital revolutions and developments that would even force people’s imaginations. The digital world in question has undoubtedly changed the relationships between time, space, and people. The project evaluates the concept of ‘Coexistence’ in this context by considering it in three different ways, and in the proposed structure, it addresses the findings in three different ways: Layout organization, usage scenarios, and changes in structural suggestions. Layout organization: In terms of the coexistence of the building with the city, the new function of the building suggests a layout where the city can use the building and interact with it, rather than a conventional office layout. In terms of the coexistence of the users with the building: In the project, common spaces where the users can learn from each other have been planned by covering the gallery spaces in the common space. The coexistence of the building with the sea: One of the most important problems of the existing building is that it does not interact with the Izmir Bay. In the project, the character of the facade has been partially changed, the reverse beams are removed on both floors to make the structure transparent. In the building, with the argument of the sea is everyone’s right, floor gardens and common areas have been created by eliminating the floors on the 2nd floor, on the façade facing the seaside.”

2nd prize (from project report):
“Design decisions and layout: The building subject to the project is at an important point in the city silhouette of Izmir due to its location. However, the building’s relationship with the sea and the city is rather weak due to its current facade and plan organization. For this reason, the project we propose aims to increase the relationship of the building with the sea and therefore with the city. In parallel with this purpose, the facades of the building have been redesigned in a language where ‘transparency’, ‘flexibility’ and ‘clarity’ come to the fore. Thus, one of the most important goals of our project proposal is ‘a structure that is attractive from the outside and can reflect the events outside (hence the whole city), and experience the concept of innovation as a Festival with the whole city’. Two important foci have been created in the building. The first one is the ‘Red Box’, which hosts the ‘Digital Experience Center’, and the other is the ‘Festival Area’ where all the larger events in the building will be held. By accepting the circulation core as the center, open offices and open spaces were left on the side of the building facing Atatürk Street, and most of the closed and divisible units of the building were gathered on the side facing Cumhuriyet Boulevard. Thus, it was tried to ensure that all users perceive the sea until arriving at the circulation core.”

3rd prize (from project report) (TR):
