Mimarlık veya mimari, binaları ve diğer fiziki yapıları tasarlama ve kurma sanatı ve bilimidir. İnsanların yaşamını kolaylaştırmak ve barınma, dinlenme, çalışma, eğlenme gibi eylemlerini sürdürebilmelerini sağlamak üzere gerekli mekanları, işlevsel gereksinmeleri ekonomik ve teknik olanaklarla bağdaştırarak estetik yaratıcılıkla inşa etme sanatıdır. Başka bir tanımlamayla, yapıları ve fiziksel çevreyi uygun ölçülerde tasarlama, inşa etme sanatı ve bilimidir. İnsan barınmak için yaşamak ve doğa şartlarından korunmak için bir mekan ihtiyacı duyar ve bu mekanı kendine özgü kültürel, fonksiyonel, teknik ve farklı zevklerde yaratır. Bu zevkler sınırlandırmalarla belirlenebileceği gibi mimar tarafından hayal gücünü somutlaştırarak belli başlı tasarım çizgisinin de dışına çıkmaya dolayısıyla bireyin kendini keşfetmesine, kendi içindeki uzayı ortaya çıkartmasına, yarayan işlevsel bir araçtır.
Mimarlık mesleğinin kapsamına dini yapılardan saraylara, bir kentin dokusunu oluşturan basit konut tiplemelerine kadar her türlü açık ve kapalı mekan ve çevre (peyzaj mimarlığı) girer. Bu çevre kırsal veya kentsel olabileceği gibi, yapıları veya mekanları kuşatan yakın dış çevre diğer bir ifadeyle peyzaj tasarımı da, mimari tasarımı da olabilir. Mekan, içinde yaşamın gerçekleştiği fiziki ortam olarak tanımlanabilir. Mekanın oluşabilmesi ve üretilebilmesi için yapılara, yaşamın her gün artan çeşitliliği göz önüne alınırsa, oldukça karmaşık ilişkiler düzeni içinde yapılaşmış fiziki çevre; peyzaj mimarlığı çalışmalarına gereksinim vardır. Mimari tasarımın öznesi olan yaşam, coğrafi, iklimsel, kültürel, demografik farklılıklar içerir.
MÖ 1. yüzyılda yaşamış olan Roma’lı mimar Vitruvius “De Architectura” adlı kitabında başarılı bir mimarlık için “Utilitas, Firmitas, Venustas” (kullanışlılık, sağlamlık, güzellik) etmenlerinin gerekli olduğunu ileri sürmüştür. Rönesans’ ta bu tanım, “Comodita, perpetuita, bellezza” (kullanışlılık,süreklilik- kalıcılık, güzellik) olarak benimsenmiştir. 1581’de bir İngiliz yazarı mimarlığı “yapı bilimi” olarak tanımlarken 19. yüzyılda İngiliz eleştirmen John Ruskin mimarlığın “yapılara uygulanan süslemeden başka bir şey olmadığı”nı ileri sürüyordu. Amatör bir eleştirici olan Sir Henri Watton “The Elements of Architecture” (1624) adlı kitabında mimarlığın üç koşula (kullanılışlılık, sağlamlık, güzellik) yanıt vermesi gerektiğini belirtir. Frank Lloyd Wright’a göre de “mimarlık biçim haline gelmiş yaşamdır.”
Mimarlık ve yapı sektörü birbiriyle direkt ilgilidirler. Bunun yanında bu mesleğin mensupları; inşaat mühendisliği, makina mühendisliği, elektrik mühendisliği, peyzaj mimarlığı ve iç mimarlık gibi disiplinleri yönlendirerek sağlıklı bir çalışma ortamı oluşturur, ortaya bir proje çıkması için gerekecek sistemli organizasyonu yaparak, bu disiplinler tarafından planlanan, tasarlanan ve üretilen çeşitli ölçek ve kapsamdaki projelerin organizasyonu yapar.

What is education language ?
Education in the architecture department is 100% English. The quality of the courses, as well as our graduation, provides students with a great deal of experience in finding their masters degree programs and jobs abroad.
The architecture student taking the talent exam or should I enter YGS / LYS?
According to the results of YGS and LYS made by OSYM to enter the architecture section, the student is placed by the central placement method. Placement is made on MF (Mathematics – Science) (Numerical) score.
How much is the tuition fee for the department of architecture?
The fees are determined by the Board of Trustees for each academic year and announced in the ÖSYM guidebook. Students who prefer our university are settled as 100% scholarship, 50% scholarship, 25% scholarship or paid scholarship according to the quota and score of the program they prefer. Apart from that, at the end of each year, the 8 most successful students on a faculty basis are awarded the “Academic Achievement Scholarship”.
Do I need hand drawing skills for architecture?
The department does not accept students with aptitude test and hand drawing is an achievement that can be improved and acquired later. Therefore, the idea of “being an architect if I am a bad drawing” is absolutely wrong. Moreover, in today’s architectural education and industry, hand drawing is only used to make quick sketches and the idea phase, architecture is performed by computers, design tools.
Is there an obligation to intern in the department?
While studying in the department, there are two compulsory internship titled office and job site. The summer internship is done at the end of the 2nd class and the summer internship is done at the end of the 3rd class and added to the course selection for the following semester. Can I take lessons from other departments while studying in the Architecture department?
Yes you can. Of the 240 credits of the graduation requirement, 60+ of the elective course credits are divided into 12 elective courses. You can still get more if you wish, but your graduation will not count. For more detailed information; click
What scholarships can I earn while I study in the department?
Students who have a good track record in their previous studies may apply for International Office Scholarships while applying to Yaşar University. Applicants should write a letter of intent and provide any supporting documentation detailing why they would be a good candidate for a scholarship. A limited number of scholarships are available and will be awarded to the most successful candidates.
Academic Achievement Scholarships:
Undergraduate students enrolled at Yaşar University are eligible for scholarships based on their academic performance. Any student, who has completed the first academic year and achieved a grade point average of above 2.30 out of 4.00, will be eligible to apply for an academic scholarship. Within the quota determined, scholarships for the following academic year, will be awarded on a 100%, 50% and 25% basis. The scholarship will continue as long as the student’s grades are maintained.
Sports Scholarship:
Yasar University offers Sports Scholarships to successful athletes playing in National teams. This year, scholarships of 100%, 50% and 25% will be offered to athletes in below fields: Tennis, Table Tennis, Archery, Athletics, Chess, Fencing, Gymnastics, Swimming and Triathlon Applications for Sports Scholarship are taken during May.

What are the conditions for graduating from department?
In order to graduate from the department, it is necessary to take 240 credits within 4 years under normal conditions. Their contents are;

Taking university courses (UFND) (Academic English I – II) (Turkish Language and History)
If the number of elective courses is not over 67 and more than 12 of them are non-departmental elective courses,

Do you have any obligation to attend classes?
Courses are obligatory. In order to attend the final exam, it is obligatory to attend at least 70% of the theoretical hours and at least 80% of the application hours. The process, which is open to criticism and continuous improvement, due to the structure of the department of architecture, that there are no wrongs and mistakes, makes it impossible for the student to finish the course successfully without continuing his lessons. Critical processes, especially in architectural design studios, which play an integral part with teachers, play a major role in the students’ ability to pass the lessons.

Do you have any activities that you can develop while you are studying in the department?
Our school is an active school for social activities and student communities. At the same time you can participate in different social activities together with the student communities while you continue your education life, you can get different achievements. Apart from that, during the education period, the professor works in a lot of workshops and interviews. Especially you can translate your architectural life into a richer process, thanks to our workshops linked to abroad and workshops prepared by student collectives.
If I take part of the departmental compulsory courses, will the next semester classes be opened?
The next semester opens for some of the department courses. However, it is important to note that these courses do not conflict with your next required courses. So it is important for you and your advisors to be healthy. So it is important for you to pass our classes regularly.

What are the possibilities that the architecture department offers us?
There are many activities that support education. Workshop studies, exhibitions, seminars, technical trips are some of these. Architectural education can not only be a theoretical education, but also a technical discipline. A lot of activities that can support and develop the conceptual and technical understanding are carried out within the academic education process in a relevant way.
Our classrooms are composed of different class types to be given theoretical and practical education. In addition, CAD-CAM Atelier (YUMAK) which is carried out by our model making workshops and our faculty coordination provides important opportunities for our students in practical courses.
What are the departmental master’s programs?
Structure
The curriculum offers two trajectories for the selection of the students upon their acceptance to the program:
- Computation, Energy & Sustainability
This option focuses on advanced computational design practices and performance oriented design. Students are expected to specialize in such areas as sustainability, building rating systems, floating cities and energy use in buildings.
- Space and [Digital] Culture
This option aims at integrating the theoretical basis of architecture with digital research and presentation methods. With full awareness of contemporary architectural theories, students are expected to specialize in areas relating to urban renewal and spatial practices.
Upon completion of design studios and course requirements of their chosen curricular trajectory, students are expected to complete a research based thesis in a specialized topic of their own choice.
- RITM (RITM -RESTORATION, INTERVENTION, TRANSFORMATION) in Architecture
This option focuses on restoration, intervention, transformation and modification issues with respect to the historical monument and sites. The techniques that are essential for preservation are thought through out the education. The curriculum leads the students to be well equipped with skills for being an architect-restorer.
